The Cañada - Tuxtepec & Veracruz
This is an area, across the Northern Sierra Madre towards the Gulf of Mexico and along the Papaloapan river of Oaxaca State.
This is a fantastic lush and beautiful region of Oaxaca. Tuxtepec is the pineapple capital of Mexico and Veracruz the oldest port established in 1519 by Hernan Cortez. Veracruz has also the famous “Los Tuxtlas” mountains, famous for the concentration of most shamans of modern Mexico, where locals go for spiritual enlightenment. This is also the origin place of the mighty Olmec civilization, considered as the mother culture of the Mexico as these extraordinary people over 3,000 years ago, created the first kingdoms and developed the templates of worldview and political symbolism that formed the basis of all subsequent societies in Mesoamerica. In a real sense, they invented civilized life in this region of the world.
Programs are made to see the lush green mountains full of birds and plant life, the traditional lifestyle of that region of Oaxaca and some remarkable Olmec sites with the wonderful museum in Jalapa, vestiges of the great Totonac civilization & their awesome ancient capital El Tajin, trips into the beautiful Tuxtla mountains, coffee & cocoa plantations and in the city of Veracruz itself; its lively Marimba music, beautiful countryside & ocean.
