Folk Art in Trinidad de Viguera

This is a nearby village just north of the valley of Oaxaca in the direction of Etla. A group of highland Mixe Indian artists set up a large workshop here called Tribus Mixes and make fabulous wood carvings of animals, birds, orchids, monsters and many more whimsical and very colorful items that have earned them national prizes. Their work is usually sold in the city in fine boutiques and in the National Folk Art Museum in Mexico City.
