Lecture: Oaxacan Indian Languages
Since the second half of the XVI century, Dominican Friars Benito Hernandez and Juan de Cordova were fascinated by and learned how to write in both the Mixtec and the Zapotec languages. Today in modern day Oaxaca, there are still 14 languages spoken, over 30 dialects and as many as 94 dialectal variations. This is a brief overview of the origin and richness of the linguistic heritage of the many ethnic groups of Oaxaca.
