Lecture: Oaxaca City World Heritage Site

The first Spaniards arrived to Oaxaca less than half a year after the fall of Tenochtitlan and the Aztecs, in November of 1521, as this was a land of great fame for the arts and soon after, on April 25, 1532, that initial settlement was elevated to the rank of City with the name Antequera.
Today elegant structures from the XVI to the early XX centuries have now elevated Oaxaca City since 1987 to the category of World Heritage by the UNESCO. This is a brief overview of the first settlers, economic activities, guilds established, architectural eras and history of this beautiful city.
