Lecture: Indian Languages

Since the second half of the XVI century Dominican Friars Benito Hernandez and Juan de Cordova were fascinated, learnt and then wrote in Mixtec & Zapotec languages respectively. Today in modern Oaxaca, there are still 14 languages spoken, over 30 dialects and as many as 94 dialectal variations. This is a brief overview of the origin and richness of the linguistic heritage of the many ethnic groups of Oaxaca.
