Folk Art in San Melchor Betaza

This is a Zapotec village in the Sierra Juarez of Oaxaca. As in other villages in this mountainous region, traditional blouses (huipils) and wrap skirts are worn. Fine tunics (huipils), skirts, sashes, shawls (rebozos) and men's shirts are made from cotton and silk. These can be found in fine boutiques in Oaxaca City.
