Folk Art in San Pablo Yaganiza
This is a Zapotec village in the Sierra Juarez of Oaxaca. This region is charecterised by the white blouses (huipils) and skirts with a red sash folded three times around the waist. Not only are the textiles woven from cotton but also this is the region where mulberry trees have existed for generations and with them a local silk production exists. Other textiles are made from this locally-cultivated silk and spun by hand, then sold in Oaxaca City at fine boutiques and at the Textile Museum.
